Beephan Raises Energy Affordability Concerns, Calls for Pause on Data Center Expansions
Beephan calls for accountability and immediate action from the governor’s office in memorandum

Assemblyman Anil Beephan, Jr. (R,C-East Fishkill) respectfully urges a moratorium, an authorized suspension or pause of specific activity or law, on the approval of large-scale data centers across New York until the governor addresses in-state energy production capacity.
In a memorandum letter to Gov. Hochul, Beephan emphasizes the need for a more responsible approach, pointing to actual effects on taxpayers, families and local institutions. He is advocating for state leadership to reconsider the current path and work toward energy initiatives that prioritize giving an all-of-the-above strategy, such as building these mass construction plans around affordability, helping local businesses account for such massive projects.
“This memorandum is about sounding the alarm before it’s too late for our communities,” said Beephan. “When experts are warning that we already lack enough supply, it makes no sense to exponentially increase demand before addressing the basics. I recommend that state leaders take these concerns seriously, reverse course where necessary and work with us to implement solutions that protect our communities moving forward.”
