Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay Unveils Local Landscapes and Landmarks Visual Art Exhibit

Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski) welcomed local artists and area residents to the unveiling of the annual Local Landscapes and Landmarks Visual Art Exhibit. The exhibit, now in its sixth year, is the result of a partnership between the Art Association of Oswego, Inc. and the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the remarkable local artistic talent and bring to life the history and stories of Central New York.

The exhibition opening was held at the Art Association’s location at 30 Barbara Donahue Dr. in Oswego, and it will remain on display through Nov. 9. In total, 32 local artists submitted more than 60 original works of art, including paintings, photography, prints and sculptures. Prizes were awarded to the top three artists in the photography and painting categories.

First Place: Steven Scott – “Rain Squalls at Sunset”
Second Place: Allan Wingfield – “the Perfect Stone”
Third Place: Duane St. Onge – “Fort Ontario Cemetery”
Honorable Mention: Brian Worrall “Balloons Under the Moon” & Kayleigh Stevens “A Memory ofOrange and Gold”

Painting
First Place: Bill Bazzell – “Tug Underway”
Second Place: Rose Besch – “Oswego City Hall”
Third Place: William King – “Under a Steelhead Sky”
Honorable Mention: Theresa Bower “East Side Sunset”, Sewall Oertling “Spurce”, Leanne Joice-Gillen “Bullhead Point” & Barbara Beyerbach “Brietbeck Park”

“The incredible depth of talent displayed by local artists has been a powerful testament to the creative vision in our community. The exhibit is a unique opportunity to celebrate the essence and history of the Central New York region,” said Leader Barclay. “This event would not be possible without our incredible partners at the Art Association of Oswego, Inc., including Theresa Bower, Karen Ringwald, Bill DeMott and all of the board members for their hospitality and accommodations. Our other wonderful partners, Taylor Davis and Sara Broadwell at the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, are wonderful advocates for the local business community and integral parts of the prizes for the winners.”

Leader Barclay also recognized Sue Parsons, secretary, Sterling Historical Society and Sewall Oertling for their efforts to highlight the new Fair Haven Mural, which was recently dedicated at Fair Haven Central Park featuring prominent local landmarks and history.
