Pheffer Amato Delivers Prizes to She Should Run Winners

South Queens, NY Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-South Queens) delivered prizes to her 2020 She Should Run Essay Contest winners over the past few weekends. The four winners chosen, fourth grader Katherine E. from P.S. 114, and fifth graders Shaleah M. from P.S. 105, Cassidy R. from P.S. 114, and Daiyana D. from P.S. 253, received a She Should Run Candidate and Campaign Team Barbie Doll Set, along with a certificate from the Assemblywoman.

“I am so proud of the students who participated in this contest, and I am amazed at the ideas they came up with for new laws,” Pheffer Amato said. “I was particularly excited to deliver the She Should Run set of Barbies to the winners, because I love how unique it is. This four-doll set shows Barbie as a candidate, a campaign manager, a financial director, and a voter. Everyone can be involved in the civic process, and everyone’s ideas matter!”

The She Should Run Essay Contest launched at the end of 2020, in partnership with Rockaway Leadership Alliance, and winners were selected in early 2021. The contest posed a question to participants, “What law would you change or propose if you had the chance?” Over 20 students participated in the challenge, and four were selected to receive awards.
