Assemblyman Colton Visits Senior Centers Across District to Update Members, Listen to Concerns
Over the past few weeks, Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) has been making the rounds of senior centers located in his district, with the goal of learning about issues of importance to members, as well as to let them know what’s going on across the district, and activities that have been taking place.
Recently, the assemblyman visited the senior centers at St. Simon and Jude, Our Lady of Grace, the JCH, Most Precious Blood, St. Dominic, St. Finbar, St. Athanasius and the Marlboro Houses, as well as the Narrows Senior Center.
“I really look forward to the opportunity to chat with all my constituents, and visiting senior centers is a great way to reach many of them,” said Assemblyman Colton. “I have a great time talking with them and learning about what they are doing, and making these visits allows me to gain firsthand knowledge of issues or problems that they may be dealing with.”
At each of the centers, Assemblyman Colton delivered an update on activities his office is involved in, particularly the ongoing community cleanups, and spoke about the importance of getting young people involved in neighborhood activities such as those.
Because the assemblyman spends most weekdays in Albany between January and June, when the legislature is in session, he makes a point of visiting local institutions during the remainder of the year.
“Many of our senior centers are closed during the summer, and I will be going to those once they have reopened in the fall, as well as revisiting the ones I stopped by at during the summer,” the assemblyman noted. “And, of course, I’ll be back at all of them before the holidays, when we do our annual turkey raffles – something I know seniors look forward to every year.”
But, the assemblyman added, people don’t have to wait till he visits a center to reach out if they have a question or a concern. “I urge my constituents to call the office if they have a problem,” he said. “My hardworking staff will be delighted to assist them.”
Assemblyman Colton’s office is at 155 Kings Highway. It can be reached at 718-236-1598. In addition, on Friday afternoons, a satellite office at FIAO’s Il Centro, 8711 18th Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11214, is open from noon to 4 p.m., with English, Chinese and Russian-speaking staff members on hand.
