Assemblyman Colton, Councilmember Zhuang Focus on Bensonhurst Park in Latest Local Cleanup

Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) led a cleanup of Bensonhurst Park and surrounding streets on Saturday, August 9, joined by a team of volunteers organized by himself and City Councilmember Susan Zhuang (D—Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend, Dyker Heights, Boro Park and Sunset Park).

The team of dedicated volunteers included District Leader Nancy Tong and several staffers in Assemblyman Colton’s office, as well as members of Chinese American Social Services (CASS), wielding brooms and shovels as they cleared the park’s pathways and planting areas of the debris defacing them.

“Our parks are jewels of our neighborhood,” said Assemblyman Colton. “Because they are heavily used, they are often filled with litter, to the detriment of the many people, young and old, who rely on them. I was delighted to lead our team of volunteers to Bensonhurst Park, this week, to give that important green space the spruce-up it badly needed, knowing that the appreciation of local residents would more than repay the effort. We look forward to tackling other heavily-used oases in the community during future cleanups, and urge area residents to let us know of areas that could use our attention.”

Assemblyman Colton has led community cleanups for over a decade; each year, he and Councilmember Zhuang sponsor cleanups around the neighborhood through the summer and fall.

The next cleanup will be held on August 24 at 1 p.m. To volunteer or to report an area that needs cleaning, reach out to Assemblyman Colton’s office at 718-236-1598.
