Xiu Yan Li and Wei Tang Liu, the parents of slain NYPD Detective Wenjian Liu, visited Albany last week and were introduced to the Assembly by Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) and Assemblymembers Grace Lee and Lester Chang. The couple’s visit was made in conjunction with an event sponsored by the NYPD Asian Jade Society. Detective Liu was assassinated in December 2014, along with his partner Rafael Ramos, who were sitting in their patrol car at the time, participating in an antiterrorism drill at the intersection of Myrtle and Tompkins Avenues. Detective Liu had served for 7-1/2 years at the time of his death; he was promoted to detective posthumously.
