Assemblyman Colton Participates in Boody Career Day
As he does every year, Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) joined students and staff at David A. Boody Intermediate School (IS 228) for the school’s annual Career Day.
The event, which was held on Friday, May 23, gives students at the school an opportunity to learn about a range of possible careers from people who have dedicated their lives to them.
For Assemblyman Colton, it’s an opportunity to speak with the community’s young residents, and share his knowledge of and enthusiasm for public service.
“It’s so rewarding to speak with these bright students and help them understand the importance of public service,” Assemblyman Colton said. “I tell them about what it’s like to draft and work to pass a law at the state Capitol in Albany, and how that’s only part of my job, because an important part of it takes place at home, in the district, where I and my staff meet with between 4,000 and 5,000 people each year who come into my office with problems that range from dangerous potholes they would like to see fixed to assistance getting SNAP benefits. It’s a joy to share with these students the value of my work, and hopefully to inspire some of them to consider a career in the public sector.”
Boody is located at 228 Avenue S, in Brooklyn.
Assemblyman Colton’s district office is located at 155 Kings Highway, and is open Monday through Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. and Friday, from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition, Assemblyman Colton hosts a pop-up office at Il Centro, 8711 18th Avenue, on Fridays from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call 718-236-1598.
