Barclay Announces State Investment in Local Libraries
Five Libraries In The 120th Assembly District Awarded State Aid
Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski) announced the award of State Aid for Library Construction funds to five public libraries in Oswego County. The funds will enable the libraries to make renovations, expand existing footprints and improve facilities to support essential community services and programs.
“The investment in our library system guarantees our communities will continue to have access to important learning resources and services for the foreseeable future. Local libraries offer incredible opportunities for people of all ages to explore new ideas and support lifelong learning. I am proud to share my support for this initiative and its immeasurable return to the residents of our communities,” said Leader Barclay.
The following libraries were the recipients of state aid:
- Annie Porter Ainsworth Memorial Library ($48,402) - Replace walkways, front steps, railings, add handrails, remove the outdoor sign and tree, construct an outdoor sign with lighting and a concrete pad for the sign.
- Central Square Library ($174,795) - Purchase land and demolish the existing building on that lot in preparation for a future addition and expanded parking.
- Fulton Public Library ($47,207) - Replace the remaining 53 interior vinyl windows that were not included in a previous grant project.
- Hannibal Free Library ($15,128) - Replace the roof and the entire ceiling in the upstairs handicap accessible bathroom.
- Mexico Public Library ($18,600) - Replace handicap ramp, coating ramp and platform with Polyaspartic for more protection from salt and UV rays and new aluminum ADA railings.
The funds are from $44 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects provided in the FY 2024-25 State Budget.
