Gray Updates on State Budget, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in ‘The Gray Area’
Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) released the latest episode of “The Gray Area,” highlighting important updates on the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, along with recent developments in the state budget hearings in Albany.
Gray noted that things are headed in the right direction in relation to the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and the broader North Star Health Alliance (NSHA), with efforts being focused on bringing stability to the operations.
Gray also discussed the ongoing state budget hearings happening in Albany this week. As a member of the Committee on Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development, Gray made the case for further investment in the district’s parks.
“This week in Albany, we made great progress in securing funding for our state parks in the state budget,” said Gray. “The 116th Assembly District is home to 28 state parks, and my goal is to ensure that each one receives adequate funding to ensure North Country residents and visitors can enjoy our state parks, which contributes to the tourism economy.”
As a member of the Committee on Energy, Gray pressed the Public Service Commission Chair on the recent utility rate increases made under his watch. New York electricity bills have spiked by over 33% over the past decade, outpacing the national average.
“Every year, North Country residents watch their utility rates climb higher and higher without any explanation or acknowledgment by regulators,” said Gray. “I was disappointed to hear the Public Service Commission Chair excuse away these dramatic rate increases. Working families deserve transparency, and that’s exactly what I’ll continue to fight for as your voice in Albany.”
Gray had the opportunity to host several visitors and advocacy groups in Albany this week, including 1199 SEIU and the Cornell Cooperative Extension, to hear their concerns and priorities for the upcoming state budget.
“Look out for next week’s episode of The Gray Area as we continue to update you on what you care about. We always appreciate the opportunity to serve you and to work with you. Don’t hesitate to call my office staff with questions, comments or concerns; see you soon,” Gray concluded.
