Assembly Member Scott Gray to Host Critical Nuclear Event for Local Officials

Assembly Member Scott Gray (R-Watertown) announced today he will host a vital event for local officials from Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties focused on nuclear energy, safety and its critical role in New York’s future. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bonnie Castle Resort and Marina, located at 31 Holland St., Alexandria Bay, NY 13607.

This exclusive gathering will provide an invaluable opportunity for local and regional officials to engage in an in-depth discussion about the complexities and importance of nuclear power. Topics will include, but are not limited to, the economic impact of nuclear facilities, emergency preparedness protocols, technological advancements in nuclear energy and the role of nuclear power in achieving the state’s clean energy goals.

“In support of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s announcement today initiating the development of one gigawatt of clean energy through a public-private partnership led by the New York Power Authority, the timing of the Advanced Nuclear 101, an educational forum aimed at introducing local leaders to next-generation nuclear energy technologies, is very appropriate.”

“As elected officials, it is our responsibility to be fully informed on all matters that impact our communities and few topics are as crucial and misperceived as nuclear energy,” said Gray. “This event is designed to foster a direct dialogue, provide factual information and address any concerns or questions our colleagues may have regarding future nuclear operations within our region and across the state. Understanding the nuances of nuclear power is paramount to making sound policy decisions that ensure both the safety and prosperity of our constituents.”

The event will feature presentations from experts in nuclear energy, safety and emergency management, offering attendees a comprehensive overview of current practices and future outlooks. A question-and-answer session will follow, allowing for direct engagement with the experts and a forum for peer-to-peer discussion among local officials.

Attendance is by invitation only and is open to elected officials and stakeholders from Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties. Officials interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP by:
