Assemblyman Scott Bendett (R,C-Sand Lake) attended a press conference hosted by Assemblyman Ed Flood (R,C-Port Jefferson) and Sen. Anthony Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk) at the Capitol to advocate for “Gabby’s Law.” The law would establish a “Teal Alert” for missing adults including victims of domestic violence who are believed to be in danger (A.3230/S.2274).

The Teal Alert system would include adults between the ages of 18-64 in the national system for missing persons. Similar to the Amber Alert national system for missing children and the Silver Alert for seniors and adults with mental health issues, the Teal Alert would inform communities of endangered and missing people to help in the search for a safe recovery.

“We have an opportunity to save lives. For a state that is lagging when it comes to public safety, this is common-sense legislation to help bring safety to our communities. Gabby’s Law would opt New York into an existing national system with numerous other states known as Ashanti's Law,” said Bendett.
