Smullen: Assembly Majority Cancel March 1 Session

“It’s astonishing the level to which Assembly Majority are willing to go in order to hide from the truth and from accountability, to the point where they will cancel a full day of session just to ensure that the Governor’s emergency powers remain protected and untampered, even if New Yorkers are ready for a change. Since the start of this pandemic, the Minority Conference has voiced our concerns about what happens when we give one branch too much power, and we’re continuing to see those consequences come home to roost. But for Assembly Majority to play a part in shielding the governor from accountability makes them equally culpable in the failures and letdowns of the state response. I want to applaud my Majority colleagues who are speaking out for truth and justice against the clearly organized attempt to silence any dissent and dissuade any investigation. I only hope that while Majority are stonewalling, hoping their problems go away, they recognize the damage their inaction is doing before it’s too late.”
