Smullen: Increasing Funding for Our SUNY and CUNY Schools is Essential

A Statement from Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) in response to the recent joint budget conference committee about funding for higher education on Monday, March 18, 2024.

“As Minority Ranker of the Higher Education Committee, it’s very important that funding is adequate for our institutions of higher learning, including SUNY and CUNY schools. Many colleges and universities statewide were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and continued outmigration, and are in need of additional funds to financially recover. Our SUNY and CUNY schools deserve our support to maintain their facilities and continue to provide the best educational opportunities possible. We need to invest in our children’s futures and avoid doing so at taxpayers’ expense. I am hopeful the FY2024-25 State Budget reflects these goals.”
