Smullen: No More Empty Promises—New Yorkers Want New Ideas and Constructive Solutions

A Statement from Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) in response to Gov. Hochul’s State of the State Address on Jan. 9, 2024.

“New Yorkers have spoken: safety and affordability are two of residents’ biggest concerns in our state. While these concerns are the reasoning behind so many families and businesses deciding to up and leave New York, our state budget only continues to grow, spending in our state remains out-of-control and crime is only tightening its grip on our vulnerable communities and struggling criminal justice system. Instead of just telling our constituents things will get better someday, it’s time we take a step back and re-evaluate our current strategies. We need to pinpoint solutions to problems specific to the various and diverse regions of our state, and we need to have the backs of families who rely on us to act in their best interest.”
