Smullen Reacts to One-House Budget

Today, Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and The Adirondacks) reacted to the budget put forth by the Assembly Majority. The budget total is part of a trend that has resulted in spending going up every year since 2019 when Smullen first joined the Assembly.

“The budget put forth today continues a trend from Majority lawmakers in Albany of spending way too much and getting way too little in return. When I first joined the Assembly, we passed a budget of $176 billion. The budget put forth today is $235 billion. That is an unacceptable increase that is unsustainable in the long term. In fact, despite California having almost double our population, our budget is around the same size as theirs, and our budget is larger than those of Texas and Florida combined. This level of spending is dangerous, especially with the inflation caused by spending in the Biden administration that has resulted in the national debt reaching almost $32 trillion. We must rein in our bloated budgets if we want to have a successful economy,” said Smullen.
