Assemblymember Robert Carroll Commends Governor Hochul for Protecting Libraries from ICE
Albany, NY – Assemblymember Robert Carroll (D/WF-Brooklyn) issued the following statement on Governor Hochul’s inclusion of libraries in her proposal to prohibit ICE from entering sensitive locations such as schools and houses of worship without a judicial warrant.
“As Chair of the Assembly Committee on Libraries and Education Technology, I commend Governor Hochul for now including libraries as part of her proposal to prohibit ICE from entering locations such as schools and houses of worship without a judicial warrant. This is something I called for back in February when the Executive Budget was first released. In addition to their core mission as centers of learning and enjoyment libraries perform a host of services for community members including immigrants and are among our most democratic civic institutions welcoming to all. We must do all we can on the state level to rein in ICE’s illegal and immoral behavior.”
