Assemblymember Robert Carroll Arrested with Ten Other Elected Officials Protesting ICE at 26 Federal Plaza
Brooklyn, NY – Assemblymember Robert Carroll (D/WF-Brooklyn) and ten other elected officials were arrested on the 10th floor of 26 Federal Plaza today protesting ICE’s illegal and inhumane treatment of immigrant New Yorkers.
“ICE’s dangerous and unconstitutional behavior must stop. Apprehending and detaining people without judicial warrants is abduction by another name. ICE’s occupation of federal buildings and immigration courts is turning our judicial process into a vehicle for authoritarianism,” said Assemblymember Carroll. “The ongoing detention of immigrants at 26 Federal Plaza is dangerous, illegal, inhumane, and counter to our values and the right to due process. The Trump Administration needs to understand that it is not above the law.”
In August, Assemblymember Carroll called on Governor Hochul to act within her statutory authority to shut down buildings where ICE’s illegal actions pose a threat to public health and safety and he renewed that call today.
