Assemblymember Sayegh: Assembly Budget Proposal Restores Focus on Education Funding

“I am pleased that the Assembly budget proposal fully funds our state’s education system because providing a quality education for the next generation is one of the most important tasks entrusted to legislators. It has been a priority of mine since day one, and I will fight to make sure that the final state budget does not leave our students behind.

“Crucially, the Assembly proposal reinstates the ‘hold harmless’ provision that guarantees school districts do not have their Foundation Aid allocation decreased. New York’s teachers are training the next generation of leaders, and they deserve the resources they need to succeed. That’s why I supported the Assembly proposal to increase school funding by $1.8 billion. It also provides for universal pre-kindergarten and free school meals for every child. New York cannot afford to let any students slip through the cracks.

“Our budget proposal sets up New York’s children and educators for success. Every child deserves a quality education and a full stomach. I look forward to working with my Assembly colleagues as we work to secure these vital measures in the final state budget.”
