Assemblywoman Solages Applauds Topping-Off of New Belmont Park Grandstand

ELMONT, N.Y. — Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages joined Governor Kathy Hochul, the New York Racing Association, labor leaders, and local partners to celebrate the topping-off of the new Belmont Park grandstand, marking a major construction milestone in one of Long Island’s most transformative projects.
The placement of the final steel beam on the new grandstand represents the completion of the building’s structural framework and signals considerable progress toward the modernization of the iconic racing venue. The $455 million redevelopment project will generate more than 3,700 union construction jobs, deliver over $1 billion in economic impact, and create an estimated $10 million in annual state and local tax revenue.
“Today’s topping-off at Belmont is more than a construction milestone, it’s the next stride in a legacy that proves the ‘Test of the Champion’ begins long before race day,” said Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages. “It begins with the people who have faith in this community. We are grateful to Governor Hochul and the New York State Legislature for their commitment to this community and for investing the resources to build a brand-new Belmont Park that reflects its proud history. This project is creating local jobs, supporting small businesses, and strengthening the Long Island economy for generations to come.”
The new Belmont Park will feature a five-story, state-of-the-art grandstand, expanded green spaces, and new pedestrian and vehicular tunnels that connect to the infield, improving accessibility and reducing the grandstand’s overall footprint. The project also includes substantial upgrades to the barn area and backstretch, such as new dormitories, a modernized medical clinic, upgraded recreation facilities, and flood mitigation improvements.
Once complete, Belmont Park will serve as a year-round racing and entertainment destination, with the Belmont Stakes returning to its Long Island home in 2027. The site has also been selected to host the 2027 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, bringing international attention and visitors to the region.
