Lemondes on Special Session For Further Unconstitutional Gun Legislation

Assemblyman John Lemondes (R,C,I-Lafayette) is upset to hear that Gov. Kathy Hochul has scheduled a special session to pass further gun control laws followingthe Supreme Court striking down the state’s previous concealed carry law, which deemed that New York gun owners would be overburdened by New York’s firearm application process. Lemondes calls this second attempt at passing said legislation a ‘sham.’

“At this point in time, we don’t have the language for whatever legislation Gov. Hochul is going to try and slam down our throats, but history tells us that it will be as close to unconstitutional as possible,” Lemondes said. “After New York’s Majority lawmakers were shot down by the Supreme Court for their egregious gun legislation regarding concealed carry, they’re forcing us all to come back so they can try it again. It’s frustrating at best.

“In a state where crime has continued to rise and where violent crime is often forgiven thanks to bail reform, more people need to be responsibly trained to use firearms to defend themselves and their families. This governor and this state cannot continue to infringe on Second Amendment rights.”
