Assemblyman DeStefano Highlights Importance of Tax Day, Joins Colleagues in Call for Fiscal Responsibility
As New Yorkers prepare to meet the April 15 tax filing deadline, Assemblyman Joe DeStefano (R,C-Medford) is emphasizing the importance of Tax Day as a time to reflect on government accountability, fiscal responsibility and the real cost of living in New York state.
Today, Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) hosted a Tax Day press conference on the 2nd Floor of the Million Dollar Staircase in Albany. The press conference was held to underscore the significance of Tax Day, assess New York’s current economic standing and offer a path forward for long-term sustainability.
DeStefano, a strong advocate for lower taxes and smarter budgeting, supports the message of the event and reiterated the need for change in Albany.
“Tax Day is a reminder that every dollar spent by the state comes directly from hard working New Yorkers,” said DeStefano. “We have a duty to make New York affordable again—not just for today’s families, but for future generations.”
With budget season nearing its close, DeStefano echoed Smullen’s call for a fiscally responsible budget that cuts taxes, reins in spending and delivers real relief to working-class families.
“New York’s high cost of living is driving people away,” said DeStefano. “Now is the time to produce a sustainable budget that respects taxpayers, lowers the burden on families, and keeps our state competitive.”
DeStefano continues to fight for Long Island families who are struggling under the weight of property taxes, energy costs and inflation. He remains committed to ensuring every tax dollar is used efficiently and effectively.
