Angelino Congratulates the Civil Air Patrol for 80 Years of Service to the Country

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino (R,C,I-Norwich) is extending his congratulations to the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) on its 80th Anniversary on December 1.In June, Angelino and his colleague, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, introduced an Assembly Resolution which passed unanimously to commemorate this milestone anniversary (K.381).

“Since World War II, the Civil Air Patrol continues to play an important role in our national security. In recent years, we’ve been thankful for their active participation in responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, September 11 and for their many search and rescue efforts,” said Angelino, who joined the New York Wing’s State Legislative Squadron of CAP. “I wish CAP and its all-volunteer force many more years of excellent service to our nation.”

CAP is an official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. It was established in 1941, just one week before the Pearl Harbor attacks. Today, there are more than 61,000 members in the organization.

During wartime efforts, CAP has protected American and Allied merchant vessels, thousands of sailors and essential military equipment and materiel to support troops. CAP plays an essential role in homeland protection by engaging in missions to aid in natural disaster response, border patrol and search and rescue.

CAP also participates in outreach to school-age children to grow an interest and passion in STEM education and to encourage a drug-free lifestyle. They also deploy 475 chaplains to provide counseling services to military personnel and their families and disaster victims.
