Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan Honors Fallen Airman with Dedication of “TSgt Kory Wade Memorial Highway”
Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan (R,C–Manchester) joined Sen. Pam Helming (R,C–Canandaigua), the Wade family, veterans and community members for the official dedication of the “TSgt Kory Wade Memorial Highway” along State Route 21 in the Town of Manchester. The ceremony, held on Veterans Day, served as a heartfelt tribute to U.S. Air Force TSgt Kory Wade, a proud native of Manchester, Red Jacket High School graduate and true American hero.
“TSgt Kory Wade was more than just a son, brother and friend; he was a patriot,” said Gallahan. “From the moment he graduated, Kory felt a deep call to serve his country. He answered that call with courage, honor and humility, qualities that defined his life and his service.”
As a medical logistics airman with the 48th Rescue Squadron, TSgt Wade worked tirelessly to support those who risked their lives to save others. His dedication, professionalism and selflessness earned him numerous commendations, including the Air and Space Commendation Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Tragically, TSgt Wade lost his life on June 17, 2023, during a training exercise while serving his country. The newly dedicated stretch of Route 21, running from its intersection with Route 96 to Latting Road, directly in front of the Wade family home, will forever bear his name.
“It’s fitting that every person who drives this road will see this sign and be reminded that freedom has a cost,” Gallahan continued. “Kory’s legacy is one of honor, duty and love for his country, his family and his community. This dedication ensures his service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
“One of my greatest honors as a New York State Senator is recognizing the courageous men and women who have served our nation with distinction. It’s an honor to join Kory’s family, friends and neighbors in celebrating his life of service. Dedicating this stretch of Route 21 in his name is a lasting tribute to a life of service and sacrifice, and will ensure his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who travel this road,” said Helming.
Gallahan expressed deep gratitude to Kory’s parents, Mike Wade and Jill Betz, thanking them for sharing their son’s story and allowing the community to honor his life in such a meaningful way.
