Assemblymember Dilan: New York State Should Not Profit from ICE Sweeps

“Seeing friends, family, and loved ones subjected to inhumane conditions and treated like dangerous criminals has been one of the most heartbreaking experiences of my time as a legislator. When individuals are facing abuse, neglect, and serious health risks we must intervene. As chair of the Assembly Correction Committee, I stand in support of the Dignity Not Detention Act (A.4181), which would prohibit government entities from entering into agreements to house individuals in immigration detention facilities. Furthermore, this legislation will require any existing contract to house immigrants to be immediately terminated. I am glad to report that on February 25, 2026, A.4181 was favorably reported out of committee.”
