Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Ed Ra on Passage of a Ninth Budget Extender
“It’s May the 4th. A long time ago, in a political environment far, far away, lawmakers were slightly more capable of on-time budgets. But nine extenders into a broken process, New Yorkers are still waiting for what will be the latest budget since 2010.
The governor indicated that this ‘should be a very significant week.’ But whether or not it’s an attempt at a Jedi mind trick, there’s little evidence that inspires A New Hope. More than a month after the April 1 deadline, we’ve heard enough hints, estimates and innuendoes. New Yorkers expect and deserve spending details and actual budget bills.
They say the greatest teacher, failure is. But Albany lawmakers have clearly learned nothing from their own dysfunction that for years has plagued this process.”
