Queens, New York – Assemblyman David Weprin presented an Assembly Proclamation to Dr. Sheldon Schwartz on his 102nd birthday. Family members of Dr. Schwartz, members of JASA Holliswood Senior Center, and Assemblyman Weprin celebrated the centenarian’s many accomplishments in life. Born on July 21, 1919, Mr. Schwartz attended Richmond Hill High School. Mr. Schwartz went on to graduate cum laude from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and earned his medical degree from NYU’s School of Medicine. Dr. Schwartz was the Chief of the Clinic of Arthritis and Rheumatism at Bellevue Hospital and was the first Chairman of Rheumatology at Long Island Jewish Hospital. Moreover, Dr. Schwartz helped build Hillcrest General Hospital where he served as the Chief of Medicine. In addition to his successful career in medicine, Dr. Schwartz is a member of the JASA Holliswood Senior Center and the Young Israel of Holliswood. Dr. Schwartz is married to Marlene Wadler. She was by his side during the celebration.

“Sheldon Schwartz devoted his life to serving others by working as a doctor in Queens. Perhaps, a commitment to making things better for people in need is the secret to longevity. We would all do well by following Dr. Schwartz's example. I am happy to recognize this hometown hero with a Proclamation,” said Assemblyman Weprin.
