Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) is encouraging local youths who are interested in non-traditional pathways to education and employment to register for and attend URGENT: YOUTH, a free career-training program designed to prepare those aged 18-24 to qualify for in-demand jobs in the gas, water and electric industries. This program offers classroom instruction in Energy Industry Fundamentals (EIF), OSHA 10, employability workshops and industry field trips. The URGENT Program will begin in September 2019. Mandatory orientation and information sessions will take place in June and July.

This training opportunity for youth includes a convenient class schedule, access to job shadowing and role models in the field and the ability to earn two industry certifications—one in EIF and the other in OSHA 10. After successfully completing the program, participants will be introduced to recruiters from participating companies.

“For many current students and young people, the traditional pathway of a basic high school education and then on to a four-year college may not be the ideal route to take,” McDonough said. “Non-traditional pathways to education and employment, such as the one offered through the URGENT: YOUTH program may be the right alternative for you. Non-traditional vocational employment programs offer many benefits like lower student debt, job training and preparedness, advanced job opportunities, high starting salaries and much more. I am encouraging those who are interested in vocational training and sought after jobs in the gas, water and electric industries to register and attend URGENT: YOUTH and begin your workforce development training this summer.”
