Lavine Grant Prepares People with Developmental Disabilities for Jobs

Garden City, New York – Life’s WORC’s Garden City facility is being enhanced thanks to a grant secured by New York State Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore). Lavine visited the site after securing the $125,000 grant for the non-profit organization. The grant covered the cost of a total overhaul of the existing kitchen with all new appliances with built-in smart technology. The kitchen will be used to help students learn how to prepare meals and function in a culinary environment. In addition, a new career center is in the process of being completed, which will also incorporate the latest technical equipment. Life’s WORC CEO John Pfeifer led Lavine and members of his staff on a tour of the renovated facility and explained how the new kitchen and career center will be used to help train individuals with intellectual disabilities for day-to-day life and to be productive members of the workforce.

Pfeifer said: “In order for Life's WORC to enhance the services offered to people with intellectual disabilities and social challenges, we need the support of local government and the community at large. That partnership is evident in the cooperative efforts put forth by Assemblyman Charles Lavine. Life's WORC is immensely grateful for the kindness and generosity shown by Assemblyman Lavine.”

Lavine said: “The new kitchen and career center at the Life’s WORC facility in Garden City are extremely impressive. It is very gratifying when state funds that I secured can be put to such good use. My sincere thanks to John Pfeiffer and the entire Life’s WORC team for all it does to help those with intellectual disabilities feel good about themselves and make meaningful contributions to the greater community.”
