Assemblyman Wieder: Historic Education Funding Demands Accountability, Results
“A strong, well-rounded education is the greatest tool we can give our children as they begin their journeys in life. Recently, I supported a budget that invests a historic $39 billion in education aid in the 2026-27 fiscal year, and we must have accountability and results to match our investment.
“Many parents and other constituents have reached out to me for assurance that the results of our state’s educational system match the funding being invested. Across New York, we have seen chronic absenteeism and uneven reading and math scores in our schools. If, as a state, we are investing at historic levels, then the state education leaders must also be expected to deliver measurable results. We must demand results, and that’s what I intend to do. I will work closely with our local schools, teachers and staff to ensure that state resources are used effectively and that every student can reach their full potential throughout their education.
“All New York families, children and taxpayers deserve strong schools with competitive, high-quality education that equips students with the skills they need to get ahead in life. I will continue to work hard to ensure that the major investments we are making in our most vital systems produce equally historic returns.”
