“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my good friend Andy Gnoinski. Andy was a dedicated labor leader, a tireless community volunteer, and someone who spent decades helping families throughout Schenectady County. 

I came to know the Gnoinski family many years ago. I worked closely with Andy’s daughter Kelsey during my years as a civil engineer, and through the years Andy became a good friend and someone I had tremendous respect for. 

For decades, Andy played an important role in Concerned for the Hungry’s annual Thanksgiving food program, bringing people together to make sure families in need could put a Thanksgiving meal on the table. My family and I participated many times, and I saw firsthand how much this work and the people it served meant to Andy. 

One of the things I will remember most is how welcoming Andy was to my son Michael when he came out to volunteer. Andy understood that Michael needed some additional accommodations and always made sure he was included and had a meaningful way to participate. As a father, that kindness is something I will never forget. 

Andy’s commitment to people was also reflected in his years of service in organized labor with IUE-CWA Local 301 and through his involvement with United Way, the March of Dimes and other community efforts. Whether he was standing up for working families or helping put food on the table for a family in need, Andy was always finding ways to help others. 

Schenectady County has lost a true community asset, and I have lost a good friend. Andy will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the countless people he helped and the community he worked so hard to make better.
