Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara’s student cabinet is assembled and set to meet ahead of the upcoming legislative session. At this initial meeting, students representing schools in cities to rural areas from across the 111th assembly district that includes areas of Schenectady & Montgomery counties will work to identify their top priorities for the upcoming state budget. They will complete a series of hands-on decision-making exercises on things like state-aid and local revenue to develop their version of a school budget and have the opportunity to defend their decisions. On the agenda this year is a discussion about the state’s foundation aid formula created over a decade ago and the unique budget challenges schools will be facing in the upcoming year.
