Brook-Krasny Applauds NYC for Record-Breaking Year in Road Safety
Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny (R,C–Bay Ridge, Coney Island) commented today on a recent report finding that New York City had some of the safest roads on record last year. The study, conducted by Transportation Alternatives and Families for Safe Streets, found that 2025 was tied with 2018 for the fewest traffic-related deaths in the city since 1910. In Brooklyn alone, traffic fatalities fell by 7 percent. While these numbers represent meaningful progress, the report also noted that an average of four New Yorkers lost their lives in traffic accidents each day last year. Brook-Krasny said he is encouraged by these historic results and will continue working alongside state and city stakeholders to ensure safer roads for all.
“Every day, roughly 1.5 million people travel through our city and rely on our roadways,” said Brook-Krasny. “With that level of traffic, safety has to be a top priority. That’s why I’ve fought in Albany to expand access to safe driving programs, so residents can learn defensive driving skills from the very start. I’m encouraged by these improvements in road safety and will continue working to make our streets safer for everyone.”
