On Thursday, July 24th, the New York State Black Legislative Task Force will officially launch our Statewide Listening Tour with the first stop in Long Island. The event will take place at the Roosevelt Public Library from 6PM - 8PM. Join us and use your voice to help shape how this critical funding should be used to uplift underserved communities across the state.

On Wednesday, March 19th, the New York State Black Legislative Task Force proudly hosted a Black Press Day. The day began with a press conference where Black media outlets were honored with proclamations recognizing their vital role in ensuring that Black stories are told with truth and dignity. This was followed by a powerful roundtable discussion with members of the Black media to explore ways to preserve and sustain the legacy of the Black press for generations to come. The day concluded with a resolution introduced by our Vice-Chair, Assemblymember Stefani L. Zinerman, celebrating the contributions of the Black Press.

On Thursday, June 5th, the New York State Black Legislative Task Force took a group photo on Pastel, Seersuckers, and Sundress Day in front of the Capitol. From bold pastels to timeless seersuckers and standout sundresses, members showcased a vibrant expression of Black excellence, unity, and style. We want to hear directly from you – your voice matters in shaping how this funding can best support the Brooklyn community. The New York State Black Legislative Task Force is proud to launch a Statewide Listening Tour to engage directly with community-based organizations and residents across New York. This tour is an opportunity for us to gather feedback on how to effectively allocate $30 million in funding dedicated to uplifting underserved communities throughout the state. From Long Island to Rochester, we will be making 11 stops to ensure the voices of those most impacted help shape how these resources are used to support programs including housing, education, health, economic development, cultural preservation, workforce development, criminal justice reform, and nonprofit capacity building. On Monday, June 9th, the New York State Black Legislative Task Force stood in solidarity with Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins condemning the recent Medicaid cuts. With our leaders, we're calling on the U.S Senate to restore these vital funds and protect the care millions depend on.

On Monday, June 9th, the New York State Black Legislative Task Force honored the pioneers of Black Music in Albany. From hip-hop, to jazz, soul to R&B-these genres have shaped our culture. The day included a celebration of artists with proclamations, lunch, floor introductions, and a Black Music Month resolution introduction. The New York State Black Legislative Task Force was proud to celebrate Kurtis Blow, Slick Rick, G. Keith Alexander, and Dr. Bob Lee - our voices, beats, and brilliance. On Thursday, May 29th, the New York State Black Legislative Task Force welcomed students from the NY Legal Education Opportunity (NY LEO) Program to the Capitol! Our members, especially those that are attorneys, shared words of wisdom with first-generation law school students of color as they prepare to begin their first year of law school. The visit included a breakfast meet-and-greet, a floor introduction in the NYS Assembly, and a special meeting with Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie. The Task Force wishes these scholars nothing but success on their legal journey.

On Monday, April 28th, the New York State Black Legislative Task Force took our first official group photo of the legislative session. The day also included the introduction of a resolution recognizing Black Business Month, a Community and Economic Development subcommittee meeting, an active shooter training, and a fun interactive activity called "Pop the Balloon". On Wednesday, March 26th, the New York State Black Legislative Task Force had the honor of meeting and taking a photo with the legendary Sheryl Swoopes during her visit to Albany. She was there to advocate for the importance of cancer screenings, early detection, and equitable access to care – especially in underserved communities. As the first player signed to the WNBA, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, and a Hall Famer, Sherry Swoopes is a true trailblazer in women's basketball whose legacy continues to inspire both on and off the court.
