We have gathered to once again call upon the governor and our colleagues in the Senate to join us in reforming New York State's Campaign Finance Laws.

We passed that agenda to provide a system of public campaign finance that will restore to the citizens of this state their voice and their faith in what is ultimately their government.

If we allow the cost of running for office to continue to rise and force candidates to go out and raise substantial sums of money, not only will the vast majority of New Yorkers be shut out from the opportunity to serve in elected office, but New Yorkers will be short-changed from the government that they deserve.
