McDonough Announces Availability of NYS Lottery Scholarships

Assemblyman David G. McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) today announced the availability of scholarships from the New York State Lottery. The Lottery will be awarding a four-year scholarship to one graduating senior from every participating high school in the state. “This is a great opportunity for all graduating seniors,” said McDonough. “I encourage all eligible senior students to apply.” Of the two qualified seniors recommended by every participating public and nonpublic high school that applies, one will be awarded a scholarship. The $4,000 scholarship will be paid over four years, in increments of $1,000 per year. To qualify, each senior must:

  • Be expected to graduate in June 2007.
  • Maintain at least a B average, based on seven semesters of high school (include transcript).
  • Have experience in extracurricular and community activities.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Be planning to attend a New York State accredited college, university, trade school, or community college.
The conditions for maintaining the scholarship are that the student:
  • Attends a New York State accredited college, university, trade school, or community college.
  • Remains a full-time student.
  • Maintains at least a B cumulative average, as determined by the chosen school.
  • Must not accept a full-cost-of-attendance scholarship from another source.
  • Provides program administrator with proper transcripts/documents to confirm eligibility.
  • Completes studies within five years of high school graduation date.
