Edward Hennessey
Edward Hennessey, born December 5, 1961, was elected to the 3rd Assembly District in November 2012. Edward, who grew up in Mastic Beach and graduated from William Floyd High School, is a husband, father, and experienced public servant who is deeply rooted in the South Shore Tri-Hamlet community.

Since his election to the Assembly in the fall of 2012, Edward has worked to improve the quality of life for Suffolk families. He sponsored the law that increased penalties for texting-while-driving (Chapter 91 of 2013) and fought to increase state education aid for the local schools districts. In addition to the state aid increases, Edward fought for and secured an additional $500,000 in discretionary funding for many of the local schools to help prevent teacher layoffs and/or save vital educational programs. Furthermore, Edward fought to extend the lowest personal income tax rates New Yorkers have seen in 60 years and provided a veterans tax credit to businesses that hire veterans.

One of Edwardís top priorities is to help communities recover and rebuild after Super Storm Sandy. Since elected, Edward has been working with federal, state and local officials to ensure our communities receive their fair share in order to stabilize, rebuild, and grow.

From 1994 through 2005 Edward served as Brookhaven Town Councilman. During his time on the Town Board, he concentrated on community redevelopment and planning initiatives. Edward began by upgrading the Townís infrastructure with federal highway projects and adopting local laws to change and improve land use. He then worked to create regional land use plans and launched community visionings which enabled him to implement the planning recommendations put forth by a community.

Prior to his public service, Edward was a prosecutor in the Suffolk County District Attorneyís Office. He served as General Counsel to labor unions, including Local 342, Long Island Public Service Employee Union & Trust, UMD, LIA and AFL-CIO, representing the rights of working people. Edward also served as counsel in the New York State Senate as a policy advisor. He now concentrates on Criminal Law, Personal Injury and Real Estate.

Edward graduated with his Bachelorís Degree in Government and Politics from St. Johnís University in 1984 and earned his Law Degree from Touro College in 1988. He is married to his wife Joan, and has two children, John Patrick, age 18, and Edward Joseph, age 14.
