EXPRESSING sincerest, heartfelt condolences to the
Boston community in the wake of the devastating
tragedy which took place during the 2013 Boston
Marathon, and applauding all those who acted
immediately and heroically in the face of danger

WHEREAS, Once again, the very principles of American freedom, and
the safety and security of every American at home and abroad were
challenged by the unspeakable atrocities committed in Massachusetts on
Monday, April 15, 2013, during the 2013 Boston Marathon; and

WHEREAS, For all New Yorkers, the images of the Boston Marathon
rekindle heartbreaking memories of the 9/11 attacks on Lower  Manhattan;
and

WHEREAS, The very heart and soul of America has once more been
shaken to its core by a senseless and cowardly act of terrorism, causing
appalling injuries and loss of life to more than 170 people who had
gathered to participate in or cheer on loved ones during the running of
the Boston Marathon; and

WHEREAS, Since 1897, the Boston Marathon has drawn people from all
over the world including the many New Yorkers who participate in this
event, the world's oldest annual marathon; and

WHEREAS, The power of human compassion and the strength of the
American spirit were revealed in Boston as we learned of the immediate
and heroic outpouring of service and concern the City experienced during
its treasured Marathon and in its aftermath; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted first responders, including police officers, fire
fighters, and emergency medical technicians, who inspire us all by
carrying  out  their sworn duties with great courage and astute actions;
and

WHEREAS, The spirit and compassionate heroism of America was evident
in the actions of every individual who responded without hesitation or
concern for their own welfare and safety in the face of a
life-threatening situation; and

WHEREAS, The combined and coordinated efforts of local and federal
law enforcement officers to swiftly pursue and bring to justice those
responsible for this horrific event are testament to the spirit of unity
and fellowship in the face of adversity which characterizes the best of
America; and

WHEREAS, The people of the State of New York stand steadfast in
their solidarity with the Boston community, all of whom were victimized
by the events of April 15, 2013; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
express condolences to the Boston community in the wake of the
