An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to requiring the
metropolitan transportation authority provide fire extinguishers at each
platform and on all subway cars
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To provide access to fire extinguishers on all subway cars and platforms
operated by the metropolitan transportation authority.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one of this bill amends section 1270-k to require installation
of one encased, alarmed and publicly accessible fire extinguisher in
every subway station and inside every subway car and bus.

JUSTIFICATION:
For the safety of commuters and passengers it is paramount that we
ensure access to fire extinguishers for passengers and commuters for use
in the case of an emergency.

AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to requiring the
metropolitan transportation authority provide fire extinguishers at
each platform and on all subway cars
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The public authorities law is amended by adding a new
2 section 1270-k to read as follows:
3 § 1270-k. Fire extinguishers. 1. The authority shall install one
4 encased, alarmed and publicly accessible fire extinguisher inside every
5 subway station.
6 2. The authority shall install one encased, alarmed and publicly
7 accessible fire extinguisher in each subway car and bus.
8 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
