Assembly Pauses to Honor Victims of the
Boston Marathon Attacks
Speaker Silver Statement on Resolution

For New Yorkers, the images from last week's senseless and cowardly act of terrorism in Boston rekindle the heartbreaking memories of the 9/11 attacks on Lower Manhattan. As the American people rallied around us then, we extend our hands and our hearts to our neighbors and friends to the East.

At 2:50 p.m. today, marking the time of the violent attack one week ago, Americans paused to offer a silent prayer for the three young lives that were torn from their loved ones; for the more than 170 men, women and children who were wounded and critically injured; and for the residents of Boston who endured not only a bombing, but a citywide manhunt.

The depth of human compassion and strength of the American spirit were evident in the actions of every individual who aided victims without hesitation or concern for their own safety. We commend the coordinated efforts of the local and federal law enforcement officers who swiftly pursued and brought to justice those responsible. By passage of this resolution, the members of the New York State Assembly offer our ongoing support of the citizens of Boston, as they overcome these tragic events and carry on their daily lives in defiance of terrorism.
