NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

SUBJECT:
Matching the needs of the Capital Region's emerging high tech industries with the regional workforce.

PURPOSE:
To identify emerging industries in the region and learn how government, industry, labor, education and training institutions are working together to meet the needs of these industries.

Legislative Office Building - Room 711
Tuesday, June 9, 2009
10:00 a.m.
Albany, New York

The federal stimulus package and other pending federal initiatives provide significant training funds to New York State in such high-tech fields as green technology, health information technology and broadband. Increased funding is also available for NIH- and NSF-funded research and development activities. There are numerous research institutions, including the Centers of Excellence and the Centers for Advanced Technology, that work directly with businesses in New York State, and entities such as these and others that provide workforce training will be eligible to receive additional federal funding for emerging industries training initiatives.

It is incumbent upon industry and education and research institutions to maximize the use of these funds so that the workforce is prepared for the existing and new high tech jobs that become available as industries expand.
