Four years ago, we made a commitment to the children being born in this state that this year we would open the school door to every four year old in this state. I call upon the governor to keep that promise.

His funding that he provided for pre-K in his budget submission is totally inadequate. At a time when our children are performing below grade on standardized tests, most education experts will tell you the way to raise students reaching their educational potential is to start the educational process earlier.

We must have that commitment for Universal pre-K for every four year old in this state and we must reduce class size as well.
