Statement from Assemblymember Patricia A. Fahy on Gov. Cuomo’s 2013 State of the State Address and Legislative Agenda

Albany, N.Y. – Assemblywoman Patricia A. Fahy (D-109th Assembly District), representing the City of Albany and Towns of Bethlehem, Guilderland, and New Scotland, has released the following statement regarding Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s remarks at the 2013 State of the State address in Albany.

“Governor Cuomo has laid out an ambitious, progressive agenda that will continue to move our state in the right direction. I am particularly encouraged that the governor is expanding economic development efforts in Upstate New York and is advancing the Women’s Equality Act, which incorporates reproductive health rights, increases protection for domestic violence victims and prevents discrimination in the workplace.”

“Just as encouraging is the proposed gun control legislation. As I’ve said previously, enough is enough with gun violence in our communities. We need to keep hand guns and high-capacity, assault weapons off our streets and out of the hands of criminals.”

“Finally, the governor’s plan to expand full-day, pre-k and a longer school day, which should include academic enrichment and athletic activities and incorporate model afterschool programs, is a major step in the right direction. As an advocate for our children and our schools, I firmly believe that education – from the earliest age – is the most effective way for us to prepare the next generation."
