Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,C,I-Glen Head) is pleased to announce the Planting Fields Foundation has received a $70,000 grant from the Parks and Trails organization. The foundation will use this grant to hire an architect to reuse and preserve a vacant historic structure at the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park.
The Planting Fields Arboretum is a huge part of our community, so I am thrilled they are receiving this grant to help keep the park in good working condition. said Montesano. Grants like this enhance treasured outdoor spaces, such as the Planting Fields Arboretum, and allow them to stay open to welcome visitors. During this pandemic, when people are using our parks and trails more than ever, it is important to keep such places in the best shape possible. These funds will help preserve the Planting Fields so many generations to come can continue to enjoy and learn about the propertys history.
The Parks and Trails organization awarded 29 grants over the summer totaling $900,000, which supports projects that improve public access and recreation opportunities at state parks, historic sites and other public land throughout New York. The organization has been an advocate across the state since 1985, awarding grants which have had impressive impacts on many communities. Funding awarded by the organization goes to help protect New Yorks water, land and air, while delivering essential resources to society.
