As we are moving closer to the budget deadline of April 1, as per usual, we continue to have difficulties in negotiations as the governor and Majority politicians are insisting policy-related issues be included in the upcoming budget. Though the budget should never have policy included in it, this year we really must focus on passing a bare bones budget without policy or extend the deadline by a month. We are currently in a position where we can only have a limited number of people in chambers at one time, so it makes debating such issues difficult. Right now, what matters most is passing a budget to help keep New York afloat during the COVID-19 crisis. Again, we can come back at a later date to debate the policy-related issues scheduled for this legislative session.
