Montesano Pushes to Stop Police Dousing Incidents

Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,C,I-Glen Head) has announced he will be signing on to support a bill (A.8682) which would make it a crime to douse a police officer with any substances. In the past few years, there have been increases in incidents where officers have been doused with water and other substances.

“I cannot believe the disrespect that is being shown to the brave men and women who risk their lives to protect strangers on a daily basis,” said Montesano. “Some people may think this is not a big deal, but considering that there is the potential for officers to be doused with harmful substances, not just water, this is a serious issue. Even if it is only water, not only could that damage some of their equipment, it also takes them away from their duty in serving their communities while they dry off and change. It’s sad we even have to pass such a law to stop such disrespect to our officers.”
