Cuomo Puts Law Enforcement and Communities at Risk

A statement from Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,C,I-Glen Head)

Members of the Assembly Minority were briefed on Monday, February 24 by representatives from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the Green Light Law’s (A.3675B) potential dangers.

“It is utterly appalling that Gov. Cuomo is fighting harder to protect illegal immigrants than the law-abiding citizens of New York who he represents. Revoking federal and local law enforcement access to New York’s DMV database puts our police officers and law enforcement officials in unimaginable and unnecessary danger. It also puts our communities in jeopardy by potentially letting dangerous criminals free. I’m not just talking about those who are in this country illegally, I’m also talking about legal citizens with arrest warrants getting let go because officers can’t access anyone’s record. Cuomo is doing this all at the cost of tax-paying, law-abiding New Yorkers, and it’s not fair to anyone.”
