Jean-Pierre to Sponsor Lemonade Stand to Raise Awareness for Migrant Families

On Saturday, July 28th, 2018, New York State Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre will partner with Lawyer Moms of America in hosting “Kids Take a Stand,” a nationwide lemonade stand initiative to raise awareness for migrant children who are still separated from their families. Since April, thousands of children have been separated from their parents at the U.S. border, yet despite a court order to reunite children with their parents, most are still sitting alone in shelters. Saturday’s lemonade stands will raise awareness of the ongoing separation and detention of migrant families while also raising funds to speed up the safe reunification of families. All proceeds will benefit Project Corazon, a national coalition of law firms and immigration law nonprofits, led by the Lawyers for Good Government Foundation, to provide legal assistance for the safe reunification of families.

“As a mother of a two-year old daughter, I cannot even begin to imagine what it is like for the thousands of mothers, fathers, and children who have been separated from one another for the last several months,” said Jean-Pierre. “Saturday’s lemonade stand will be a great opportunity for local residents to hear directly from some of their elected officials while helping to support the family reunification efforts taking place around the country. I’d like to thank Lawyer Moms of America for allowing me to take part in such an important initiative.”

Saturday’s lemonade stand will take place from 8:30AM-10:30AM at Wyandanch Plaza, located at 40 Station Drive in Wyandanch. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase lemonade and hear from local elected officials about various issues impacting their communities.

Lawyer Moms of America is a non-partisan, grassroots coalition with more than 17,500 lawyer mothers and supporters across the United States that started with one single purpose: the immediate end to the inhumane and illegal policy of separating migrant children from their parents.
