New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Low-rise Residential New Construction Programs incorporate the New York ENERGY STAR® Certified Homes Program as well as NYSERDA’s offer of eligibility for certain gut rehabilitation projects to participate and receive the alternative New York Energy $mart designation. These Programs are designed and intended to encourage the construction of single-family homes and low-rise residential dwelling units which operate more energy efficiently, are more durable, and provide a healthier environment for their occupants than would otherwise be achieved. Details of these programs are published in NYSERDA’s Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 2309.

  • Eligibility: To be eligible to participate and receive incentives, the dwelling unit(s) must be located in one of the following electric or gas utility service territories: Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation, Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc., New York State Electric & Gas Corporation, National Fuel Gas, National Grid, Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., or Rochester Gas & Electric Corporation. Other utility service territories may be added at the discretion of NYSERDA.

  • Funding: $33,272,869

  • Deadline: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis as long as funds are available through December 31, 2015.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is continuously accepting applications for Technical Assistance Grants (TAGs). TAGs are a citizen participation tool available to eligible community groups to increase public awareness and understanding of remedial activities taking place in their community. TAGs, in the form of State Assistance Contracts, are available to eligible community groups for the purpose of obtaining independent technical assistance in interpreting existing environmental information about an eligible “significant threat” site being remediated in the State Superfund Program or Brownfield Cleanup Program.

On the federal level...

National Endowment for the Arts

The Challenge America Fast-Track opportunity offers support to small and mid-sized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations – those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. Age alone (e.g., youth, seniors) does not qualify a group as underserved; at least one of the underserved characteristics noted above also must be present. Grants are available for professional arts programming and for projects that emphasize the potential of the arts in community development.

National Institutes of Health

The Science Education Drug Abuse Partnership Award program has announced funding for the development and evaluation of innovative model programs and materials for enhancing knowledge and understanding of neuroscience and the neurobiological mechanisms of drug abuse and addiction among K-12 students, the general public, health care practitioners, and other groups. The program seeks to 1) provide education to youth, the general public and others on neuroscience and drug abuse, and 2) ensure that highly trained scientists will be available in adequate numbers to address the nation’s research needs in neuroscience and drug abuse research. The award provides support for the formation of partnerships between scientists and educators, media experts, community leaders, and other interested organizations for the development and evaluation of programs and materials that will enhance knowledge and understanding of science related to drug abuse.

On the private level...

The Fisher House Foundation, Newman’s Own, and Military Times

Fisher House Foundation, a private-public partnership that supports America’s military in times of need, is accepting proposals from nonprofit organizations for the 2013 Newman’s Own Awards for creative ideas to improve the quality of life for service members and their families. Newman’s Own, Fisher House Foundation, and the Military Times (Gannett Government Media Corporation) join together in presenting $100,000 in grants to the most creative military quality of life improvement plans.

Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation

The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation supports domestic pets by providing financial support through their grant program for animal welfare organizations, pet rescue and rehabilitation organizations, and therapeutic pet programs. Funding is aimed at preventing pet overpopulation, providing food and medical expenses for animals, and other needs required by pets. Build-A-Bear Workshop prioritizes efforts that help dogs and cats; however, the program also supports programs that work with horses, rabbits, birds, and reptiles. Farm animals and wildlife are not eligible for this program. The direct support grants can be used only for spay/neuter expenses, medical expenses, micro-chipping, food, and cages.
