Legislative Update from the
New York State Assembly Committee on Small Business

Below are the activities of the Assembly Small Business Committee thru the month of April 2010. As you can see from the following list of bills that came through the Small Business Committee, we have made some progress in our efforts to bring improvements to the small business community.

A.1148 (Destito)
S.3019 (Valesky)

Assists small businesses in pollution prevention and compliance with Federal and State environmental laws. Establishes the Small Business Clean Environment Fund within the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation.

A.2260-A (Stirpe)
S.1609 (Valesky)

This bill provides ways to more fully support and encourage small businesses by providing greater internet access for identifying potential sources of funding and technical assistance. This bill creates the "Main Street Center Grant Program". These grants can be used for façade renovation and interior rehabilitation.

This bill improves New York's business climate by providing a Small business portal on the Department of Economic Development website with links to local, state, and federal agencies.

This bill would provide funds to small businesses to conduct innovative research having commercial application through the Small Business Innovation Program.

This bill would aid in the assistance of obtaining technical, managerial, financial, and other support services for Minority Women Business Enterprises and other certified businesses and applicants.

This bill would establish the Micro Business Outreach Center Assistance Program within the New York State Department of Economic Development.

A.10474 (Espaillat)

This bill would assist small businesses in economically distressed areas by reducing high energy cost loans for energy improvement projects in order to stimulate growth and development.
