BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS
(Executive Budget: pp. 341-342)
The Commission on Judicial Conduct, the Commission on Judicial
Nomination, and the Governor's Judicial Screening Committees represent
the three Judicial Commissions for the State of New York. The
Commission on Judicial Conduct investigates complaints of misconduct
against judges and justices. The Commission on Judicial Nomination
evaluates candidates and makes recommendations to the Governor for
appointments to the Court of Appeals. The Governor's Judicial
Screening Committees review qualifications and make recommendations
to the Governor to fill judicial vacancies on courts other than the
Court of Appeals, such as the Court of Claims and the Appellate
Divisions of the Supreme Court.
These agencies are included in the Public Protection and General
Government appropriation bill.
State Operations
The Executive recommends an All Funds appropriations of $2,390,000,
an increase of $110,000 or 4.8 percent over State Fiscal Year (SFY)
2001-02.
Commission on Judicial Conduct
The Governor proposes a General Fund appropriation of $2,230,000.
This represents an increase of $110,000 or 5.2 percent over the SFY
2001-02 funding level. The increase is attributed to salary
adjustments and other costs associated with agency operation.
Judicial Screening Committees
The Governor recommends a General Fund appropriation of $150,000.
This represents no change from the SFY 2001-02 funding level.
Commission on Judicial Nominations
The Governor recommends a General Fund appropriation of $10,000. This
represents no change from the SFY 2001-02 funding level.
